Privacy policy

This policy explains what data Check My Attorney collects from visitors, how attorney records are sourced, and how to make a privacy request. We keep data collection to a minimum.

What we collect from visitors

  • Analytics. We use PostHog to understand aggregate usage — pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and referring source. This helps us improve the site.
  • No accounts. There is no login or account system. We do not ask for, store, or require your name, email, or password to use the site.
  • No sale of personal information. We do not sell, rent, or trade visitor personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Where attorney data comes from

The attorney records on this site are not personal information you give us — they are public records published by official sources, including state bar and court licensing authorities, republished here as a public-records lookup. We reconcile our counts against the authority's own published totals or the American Bar Association benchmark. See our data sources & methodology for the full list of sources and our verification process.

Removal & correction requests

Because the data mirrors official public records, the system of record is always the issuing authority — the fastest way to change a record is to contact the licensing authority that published it. If you want us to correct or remove how a public record is presented here, email [email protected] with the attorney name, state, and the specific issue, and we will review the request.

Your privacy rights (CCPA-style requests)

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to request its deletion, and to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information. Because we operate no account system and do not sell personal information, we hold very little visitor data. To make a request — including a request to know, delete, or opt out — email [email protected] and we will respond consistent with applicable law (such as the CCPA/CPRA). We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves (for example, if we add accounts or new features). Material changes will be reflected on this page.

This site republishes official public records and is not legal advice, a lawyer referral service, or a consumer reporting agency. Information here may not be used to make decisions about employment, tenancy, or credit (FCRA). Records are shown as published by their official sources and may contain errors or be out of date; consult the linked official source to verify. To correct or dispute a record, contact the licensing authority of record.
